My stomach somersaulted as you were describing your adventures. I hope someday to be as brave. I have yet to ever drive in a foreign country, much less one where everything about driving is backwards, not to mention the roundabouts (I've done a few of them in the U.S. and am no fan. Thanks for sharing, Mary.
Connie Flynnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17459165424255103174noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3787196793070180268.post-54888019853665733732015-04-29T06:04:56.950-07:002015-04-29T06:04:56.950-07:00The bad thing now, Angelina, is they are starting ...The bad thing now, Angelina, is they are starting to use roundabouts here in the US. (At least in my town.) And they're backwards so I always want go the wrong way around them! It was an easy adaptation except for the rear view mirror. Every time I looked for it I couldn't find it because I was looking in the wrong direction.
I've been living in Canada for Twenty-six years and while I go back to the UK every year I never drive. No one drives into London unless they have to and I don't have to.
The other reason I don't drive is because I'm terrible at it.
Thanks for the laugh. You're do much braver than I am.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03050841921811007623noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3787196793070180268.post-46989439820188287212015-04-27T07:24:21.585-07:002015-04-27T07:24:21.585-07:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01698266613078599896noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3787196793070180268.post-24366962675832961482015-04-25T15:44:38.323-07:002015-04-25T15:44:38.323-07:00Thanks for stopping by, Anastasia. I get into enough trouble driving on the side I am accustomed to. i tip my hat to you Mary, especially as it seems your determination has been richly rewarded. I lived in the UK for 5 years and feel I finally got the hang of driving through roundabouts by the time I left. I also had an American car while I lived there so that was fun. :)Angelina Jamesonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00051842039568305586noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3787196793070180268.post-68547288378256669162015-04-24T16:25:59.617-07:002015-04-24T16:25:59.617-07:00It's a challenge, but even though they have be...It's a challenge, but even though they have better public transportation than we do, even in some out-of-the-way places, there's a lot of things you can't really get to without a car. Although I...Mary, this brought a smile to my face. Although I live in the US now, I lived for a VERY long time in the UK, including a brief spell in Wales. I learned to drive in the UK but having been brought up in the US I'm able to switch back and forth fairly easily. Here's the trick for anyone contemplating driving in the UK: remember the driver is always in the middle of the road. It's true that roundabouts can be a problem and having the clutch etc. on the wrong side is a pain. I've actually told my daughter, born and bred in Britain, NOT to drive there because she got her license over here in the USA ;-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
